Post party, Pierce Jackson and I ventured to Brooklyn to see Olafur Eliasson’s (massive) waterfall installation. In an attempt to avoid the masses, we managed to sneak around in the dark and find a great spot. We eventually ran into a security guard who was on watch to make sure that no one attempted to climb the scaffolding. Once we assured him we were had no intention of doing so, he surrendered some interesting stories.

After the waterfalls, we went to Chinatown to snag some dinner at Joe’s Shanghai Restaurant with Tyler Shields. I haven’t seen Tyler since May so his trip to the East Coast provided the perfect opportunity to do some catching-up…

Tuesday night we went to the Men’s Vogue party at MoMA’s P.S.1., where there is currently a sustainable installation in the courtyard - Public Farm One.The lush greens and farm animals (chickens) provided a fun twist to the party. Needless to say, watching well-dressed drunken women attempting to (subtly) chase around baby chick(en)s was probably on of the more hilarious things that I’ve seen in a while…

BMW recently created a car covered in a skin-like seamless fabric that is stretched over an adjustable metal frame (photos). It seems only appropriate that the trend (of merging human characteristics and industrial design) has now been translated into other architectural forms - such as building facades.

Flare is a modular system to create a dynamic hull for facades or any building or wall surface. Acting like a living skin, it allows a building to express, communicate and interact with its environment.

inspired by the novel ‘Alice through the Looking Glass’ where the pieces magically turn transparent when they touch the board.
In ‘Alice through the Looking Glass’ by Lewis Carroll, Alice falls through a mirror and on the other side of the mirror, she becomes a piece in a game of chess. Inspired by this, the chess pieces have an opaque mirror finish, when they touch the surface of the board they magically turn transparent and reveal the identity of the piece contained inside them. When removed from the board they revert to being opaque, hiding the identity of the piece. This is a comment on how a chess piece has no value unless it is in play on the board. If removed from the board, a pawn and a queen are equal, in that neither have any value.
The theme of [the book] is the difference between the real world and the world behind the mirror. The White Knight talks about how he thinks better when he is upside down. In a reference, the White Knights in the set only work when they are placed upside down. This joke is hidden to all but those who know the background… (via)

Maxwell Snow’s “It’s Fun To Do Bad Things” was chosen as one of New York Magazine’s Critic’s Picks. The show is currently on exhibit at the Moeller Snow Gallery, which he recently opened with his cousin (and my dear friend) Karline Moeller.

It’s a question sure to make any cookout uncomfortable: “What do Mexican gangbangers, Norwegian metal heads, and the Ku Klux Klan have in common?” But the answer is in this stunning photography show from Dash’s baby brother (and Mary Kate’s ex-boyfriend). Snow’s intimate portraits of these fringe-group members don’t just take you out of your comfort zone, they transport you. You need to see these photos if only to understand how they defy their cringe-y descriptions—like a Klansman holding a bouquet in a sunlit forest.
